Challenge:

The Zulu word NOMANINI translates to ‘anytime’ and it is with the requirement for flexibility and mobility that … XYZ Design designed the NOMANINI transaction device.

Process:

XYZ Design was approached to provide industrial design, mechanical engineering, graphic design and a production strategy.

Solution:

The Cape Town based, NOMANINI developed an innovative product offering that effectively provides a “mini-business” to entrepreneurs in underserviced informal-settlements, outlying rural areas and overlooked inner-city centre markets. It does this with the use of cutting edge technologies, focusing on the ease of mobility for the user, and allowing prepaid services to be easily traded for hard cash by individuals living at that base of the pyramid.
For example, prepaid products such as airtime, electricity, and insurance can be sold electronically to communities at their residence or while they are in transit i.e. in taxis or on trains. A primary opportunity for the product is to sell airtime, prepaid electricity and other virtual services in mini-bus taxis (informal mode of transport) throughout emerging economies such as Africa, India and South America.
